Prevalence of Sexual Dysfunction in Females Suffering from Depression in a Tertiary Care Centre in Western U.P.

Background: There is a need to explore the sexual functioning of women with depression as one part sexualityis that it helps in developing an intimate emotional and physical relationship another person, thisrelationship may serve buffer against life stresses. Our aim was study prevalence types sexualdysfunction depressed patients compare them non-depressed women.Materials Methods: A total 270 participants who attended teaching hospital were selected for thestudy – 135 cases controls. Sociodemographic clinical details collected. Mini InternationalNeuropsychiatry Interview (M.I.N.I), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Arizona Sexual Experiences(ASEX) scale, Female Functioning Index (FSFI) scale used. dysfunction assessed inboth groups.Results: Among cases, 47.40% had mild depression, 44.44% moderate 8.15% severelydepressed. On ASEX, 46.66% dysfunction, while only 8.89% among controls.The difference controls statistically significant. Using FSFI, 40% ofthe female (FSD), 11.1% controls.Conclusion: more common females than those withoutdepression. Numerous factors can operate causation FSD. This underlines importance ofscreening FSD, its early diagnosis management.
